The deposit The zinc and silver-lead deposit was discovered in 1991 by Aberfoyle Resources Ltd, but on its analysis of the regional geology, was not deemed large enough to warrant further exploration and possible development. Terramin acquired the licences in 1997 and commenced an intensive drilling program to further define the mineral reserves.

Approval process

Lease granted to Terramin Australia Ltd on 17 August 2006

In April 2007 the Government of South Australia approved Terramin’s mining and rehabilitation program (MARP), now deemed to be a PEPR, allowing construction to begin on the 64 m Angas Zinc Mine.

Community engagement

The assessment of the mining lease application for the Angas Zinc Mine involved the establishment of the Strathalbyn Community Consultative Committee (SCCC).

The committee provides a forum for effective communication between all stakeholders and community consultation and feedback on issues relating to the mining operations in the area.
