The Mineral and Energy Resources Divisions partner with a diverse network across industry, universities, TAFE, government, incorporated bodies and South Australia's schools to provide STEM opportunities for students in Earth Science
Encouraging students to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects and showing them some of the great careers built on science, engineering, maths and technology will help secure the state's future. By igniting this interest at school level we anticipate an increase in the number of students taking up STEM subjects in higher education and in their careers to keep Australia competitive on the international stage.
Increased STEM participation will also enhance communities, providing the scientific understanding required to address some of the most challenging development and sustainability issues that we face, and ensuring informed decisions and the future prosperity of our state.
As part of our commitment to enhancing STEM opportunities for young people in South Australia the Mineral and Energy Resources Divisions offer a free education service delivered by renowned educators in Earth Science including:
- teaching resources
- workshops and lectures
- work experience
- an annual earth sciences summer school for year 9–11 students.
